About CHBC
For the last 3+ years we have been serving the residents of DC through art programs.
We began with our collaborative mural and garden program with 11th St. Bridge Foundation in 2020. We worked with 20 youth and 7 families to install a 9x 29ft mural and we artistically repurposed the grounds of the community in several locations. We worked with the community and taught them how to make garden signs and designs for their community garden. From there in the spring of 2021, we worked with Peabody ES and taught students (60) how to create cityscapes with stencils and use spray paint to color. Our next class was an open community class with the residents of Capitol Hill for the creation of 2 24ft x 30ft murals in the fall of 2021. We worked with Watkins elementary, Friendship elementary and Duke Ellington students to create the John Lewis murals on Capitol Hill. There were a total of 70 kids over a 12-week span. The spring & summer of 2022 we held an intergenerational murals art class (with DPR), an all-girls class, an all-boys class and held classes for other nonprofits (Placing People Over Love & Ridge Road Foundation). Over the span of 4 months, we created 6 murals and worked with 108 participants from 7 different communities in ward 7. We retained 93 participants through the summer and spring program. Most recently we held another art class for the Ainger Pl. community in SE. We taught the community how to install their mural for their community playground, garden and basketball court. We served a total of 10 families and 84 youth. We were able to retain 80% of the families and youth throughout the program.

We believe that true impact begins with recognizing a need and taking action to fill it. When we saw a gap in access to quality arts education and opportunities, we knew we had a role to play. From that awareness, our programs were born — designed to ensure that everyone, regardless of background or circumstance, can experience the transformative power of art. We are committed to continually listening to the community, identifying where support is most needed, and responding with innovative, inclusive initiatives that create lasting change. By seeing a need and filling it, we’re not just enriching lives — we’re building a stronger, more connected city for all.

We serve individuals in kindergarten and beyond across the DC and Seattle areas, we’re dedicated to making art an inclusive, lifelong experience. We believe creativity knows no age or boundary — and that everyone deserves the opportunity to explore, create, and connect through the power of art.
